In Ovid's version, he castrates himself in grief. Sometimes Orpheus goes to Hades of his own volition, sometimes he is told to do it by others. You know who else rewrote these characters from history? Everyone through history, several from ancient Greece alone :) There are so many versions: different, sinister causes of Eurydice's death different reasons why Orpheus turns around at the last minute even different endings where they escape. Why not play with the idea of them and rewrite them yet again? So here we are, with Orpheus and Eurydice: two people who never existed, whose memory cannot be offended. Orpheus and Eurydice represent that coupling, and there have certainly been real artist/muse couples where the woman was the greater talent and was forced to exist quietly in the man's shadow. Originally posted by Luxury Malcolm:I think it's just an opportunity to play with the artist/muse relationship in general. Though I don't want to presume why the writing is done as such. ![]() I'm not an alt right incel nor a tumblrette, but I'm just saying, if you wanted a strong female figure in the game there are plenty in greek mythology to pick from, you didn't need to elevate one at the detriment of another. It feels as if the writer suddenly turned against him in favor of Eurydice ? why exactly go for this? Every time I see Eurydice she's telling me one more new thing about how Orpheus plain sucks, which is a bit of a contrast from the early months of playing the game in which Orpheus was just interesting small talk. She was known as a dancer according to wikipedia, too, so. Eurydice isn't mentioned to actually do music at all. In the usual myth, he's painted as one of the world's best musicians. The tragic figure is now painted as a buffoon and a scoundrel, who stole Eurydice's music and never gave her credit for it. Now that Eurydice's character has appeared (great art design btw!), I don't understand why Orpheus is being shoved aside. Orpheus is known as the musician who travelled to the underworld to get his fiancée. ![]() ![]() I'm writing this cuz I have a particular affection for the orphic myth and I'm sad to see how Orpheus has been reduced to spineless joke now, as the content is being added. Hey there, love the game, long time huge Supergiant fan. Posting here since it seems more appropriate, I'm more interested in what SGG thinks.
